Diplomats agree in their support for Damascus and warn that the offensive could spread violence throughout the region

The foreign ministers of Syria, Iran and Iraq, Basam al Sabbagh, Abbas Araqchi and Fauad Hussein, discussed this Friday in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) the open crisis with the major offensive launched last week by jihadist and opposition groups. Damascus with a common message of support for the Syrian Government and the launch of new diplomatic initiatives.
“We emphasize our support for the Syrian people by sending humanitarian aid, and Baghdad will also take the initiative to hold a meeting of several countries to discuss the Syrian issue,” the Iraqi minister said as spokesman for the three diplomats.
Hussein has called for “an urgent meeting of the Arab League at the ministerial level” before assuring that Baghdad “will use all diplomatic means to achieve a solution to the situation in Syria” from a “clear position: the security of Syria and Iraq are linked.” with each other and with the security of neighboring countries.
Araqchi has assured for his part that the offensive not only represents a threat to Syria but “will spread throughout the region to other countries such as Jordan, Turkey and Iraq.”
“Terrorism must be combated at its roots, otherwise it will spread to the surrounding areas. If we want to protect our security, we must protect our neighbors from terrorism,” the minister said in statements reproduced by the semi-official Iranian news agency, Tasnim. .
On the other hand, this Friday the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajarova, confirmed the start, tomorrow, Saturday, of a meeting in Doha (Qatar) between Araqchi and the foreign ministers of Russia and Turkey, Sergei Lavrov and Hakan Fidan, as representatives of the so-called Astana Process.
These three countries are the guarantors of this initiative launched in Kazakhstan in January 2017 to end the war in Syria.
