The rental of tourist apartments, motor vehicles and online reservations through agencies will have some important changes that can be confused with the scams related to the trafficking of personal data that are currently talked about so much.
He Royal Decree 933/2021 which came into force last Monday, December 2, obliges companies and individuals to provide data on the people who hire one of these services.
This measure was applied 65 years ago, but the Ministry of the Interior has partially recovered it to put an end to the problems derived from the rise of tourist apartments. Companies or individuals that do not comply with these regulations They will face fines from 601 euros to a maximum of 30,000.
Companies will have to register the data of travelers or people who rent a home on the platform Ses.Accommodations. Clients are required to provide the name and surname, sex, ID, nationality, date of birth, place of residence, mobile number, email, number of travelers who will stay and transaction details, even kinship if any member is a minor.
He Official State Gazette (BOE) establishes that this obligation applies to natural or legal persons who carry out lodging activities or rent motor vehicles without drivers. The text understands lodging as offering a room or space to spend the night (with or without other complementary services) in exchange for a price.
Companies will have to collect the information as many of them do until now. The difference with this measure is that the data will have to be entered later in a computer record that will keep them for three years once the service ends.
The measure will mainly affect hotels, hostels, guest houses, tourist homes, rural tourism establishments, campsites and motorhome parking areas.
Traveler registration will improve customer security
The Government of Spain assures that the registration of travelers will guarantee better treatment of customer data, but it has not been liked by companies and individuals that offer tourist accommodation.
“This measure has been the subject of constant criticism from the accommodation sector and travel agencies, denouncing the high bureaucratic burden, the loss of competitiveness and the possible violation of travelers’ privacy. The Ministry of the Interior assures that it has respected the principle of transparency and efficiency by having had the participation of the recipients”, states Europa Press.
The Ministry of the Interior aims to put an end to massive cyber attacks and some common scams such as identity theft of hotels and companies in the tourism sector.
Ses.Accommodations It is not a new platform. The Government of Spain presented this tool in 2022 so that natural and legal persons could communicate data required in Royal Decree 933/2021 through the well-known register of Traveler Reports.
The platform has registered 61,540 hotel establishments operating in Spain since its inception, 1,994 travel agencies, 222 online rental platforms and 1,720 motor vehicle rental companies. The companies have recorded 4.77 million user data.
