The president of the National Group (RN), Jordan Bardellaconfirmed this Wednesday that its deputies will vote for the motion of censure which will probably overthrow the Government of French Prime Minister Michel Barnier this afternoon, and awaits a new Executive that takes its voters into account.
“We will vote on the motion of censure,” Bardella stressed in an interview with the France Inter radio station, in which he justified the overthrow of the Barnier Government because it had designed “a dangerous budget for the country”.
“It is – he said – a recession budget (…) dangerous for economic growth, dangerous for the purchasing power of the French.”
That is the reason why his far-right formation has decided to add its votes in the National Assembly to those of the leftin the first motion of censure that has to be debated this afternoon, and that almost certainly will prosper.
Bardella has explained that at the beginning of the Barnier Government in September the members of his party were “responsible and constructive” and decided not to censor “a priori”, and this although they considered that it was burdened by “a total absence of democratic legitimacy.”
However, he has insisted that they warned Barnier from the outset of what their “red lines” were, which they believe have not been strictly respected. the Social Security budgetwhich is what has now generated the two motions of censure (the one from the left and another from the RN itself, whose debate will not take place if the first succeeds).
For the president of the RN, the Government that is formed to replace the current one has to have “more consideration” for the 11 million voters that his party had in the early legislative elections at the beginning of summer.
In the event that Barnier’s Executive falls, he will be the president, Emmanuel Macronwho will have to appoint a new prime minister to form a new cabinet.
The current prime minister has implied that will not repeat as new candidate.
Also to justify the support of the motion of censure of the left, the leader of the extreme right, Marine Le Penstates in his X account that if with Barnier “the French expected the tranquilization of our institutions, a vision for the country and a hope for recovery”, that has not happened.
According to Le Pen, by drawing up a budget “in the catastrophic continuity” of what Emmanuel Macron’s Executives had done “the prime minister could only fail.”
From within the Government, the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleauin another interview with the Europe 1 station, has harshly attacked the RN, for voting on a motion of censure of The Rebellious Francethe party of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who “insults them.”
A reference to one of the phrases in the left-wing motion of censure in which Barnier is accused of “having given in to the worst obsessions of the extreme right.”
For Retailleau, who is the most obvious representative of the hard right in the current Executive, the RN deputies “are going to give a victory to Mélenchon” who “wants chaos.”
