MADRID Dec. 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution this Tuesday calling for a high-level conference aimed at promoting a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and reiterating its call to achieve a “comprehensive, just and lasting” peace in the Middle East.
The text, approved with 157 votes in favor, eight against and seven abstentions, lays the foundations for the “High Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution”, which will be will be held from June 2 to 4, 2025 in New York.
The resolution also contemplates the adoption of a final declaration after the meeting in the American city that outlines a roadmap for a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the establishment of two States.
The document demands Israel “immediate and complete cessation of all forms of violence, including military attacks, destruction and acts of terror”, including “new settlement activities” in the occupied Palestinian territories, the evacuation of “all” the settlers and the end of “their illegal acts.
Furthermore, it recalls that the Hebrew State, as an occupying power, must comply with its obligations as described in the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The resolution calls on all members of the United Nations to continue providing economic, humanitarian and technical assistance to the Palestinian people and the Palestinian Authority, in the face of the “serious humanitarian situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, which is catastrophic.” in the Gaza Strip.”
