MADRID Dec. 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) carried out this Wednesday a “self-defense” attack against “several weapons systems” allegedly belonging to pro-Iranian militias in the vicinity of its ‘Euphrates’ military base located in eastern Syria, which “They represented a clear and imminent threat.”
“CENTCOM forces successfully destroyed several weapons systems in the vicinity of the Euphrates military support site in Syria, including three truck-mounted multiple rocket launchers, a T-64 tank, and mortars that posed a clear and imminent threat to the US and coalition forces,” Pentagon spokesman General Patrick Ryder announced at a press conference.
Ryder has clarified that this attack is not related to “any broader activity in northwest Syria by other groups,” alluding to recent clashes between regime forces and rebel groups in that area of the country.
The United States launched this attack after “mobile multiple rocket launchers” acted against the “vicinity” of the aforementioned military base and “mortars were fired towards the American forces,” according to the spokesperson.
“We are still assessing who is operating these weapons, but we know that there are Iranian-backed militia groups in the area that have carried out attacks against the Euphrates Military Support Site in the past,” he said.
