Biden arrives in Angola on a visit aimed at reducing growing Chinese influence on the continent

MADRID Dec. 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, arrived this Sunday in Luanda, the capital of Angola, where he will meet with his counterpart, João Lourenço, on a three-day diplomatic visit aimed at countering the growing Chinese influence on the continent.

Both leaders will discuss “trade, investment and infrastructure; security and stability; and the deepening of cooperation” between the two countries, in a political agenda focused on the ‘Lobito Trans-African Corridor’ named for its location in the homonymous town in Angola. .

The project, estimated at around 1.3 billion dollars (about 1.24 billion euros) of investment according to Angolan authorities, aims to unite this country with Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, states rich in strategic minerals used in batteries for electric vehicles, devices electronics and clean energy technologies, and thus reduce the Asian giant’s dependence on these matters.

This visit occurs after stopping in Cape Verde, where he met this Monday with the Prime Minister, José Ulisses Correia e Silva, in what will likely be Biden’s last trip abroad as head of the White House.
