At least 15 people have died in a new attack carried out this Monday by alleged members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), linked to the jihadist group Islamic State, in the province of North Kivu, located in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). ), as reported by the authorities.

The head of the town of Bakila-Tenambo, Roger Maeti Kikongo, has indicated that the assailants broke into the town during the afternoon of Sunday and has added that the toll of victims is provisional, without ruling out that more bodies are found in the next hours.

Thus, he highlighted in statements given to the Congolese news portal 7sur7 that “the enemy burned down a town and several houses” before leaving the area, before emphasizing that the situation “is confusing.” “Activities have been paralyzed and some inhabitants have begun to move to other areas that are considered safe,” he detailed.

The ADF emerged in Uganda in the 1990s and is especially active in eastern DRC. The group suffered a split in 2019 after its leader, Musa Baluku, pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in Central Africa (ISCA), under whose flag it has operated since then.
