( Spanish) – The Ministry of Defense of Peru deployed 5,600 members of the Armed Forces to reinforce security on the main streets and avenues of the 14 districts of the provinces of Lima and Callao declared in a state of emergency.
The Ministry issued a statement this Thursday indicating that the Government “has ordered that the Center Operational Command, Maritime Operational Command and the Air Operational Command deploy their operational capabilities and human resources to enhance the planned actions against insecurity.”
The statement indicates that the military personnel will carry out surveillance, patrolling and identity control tasks, in order to locate people required by justice.
This Tuesday, the Government of Peru extended the state of emergency decreed on September 27 for 45 days. The measure, which implies that the Armed Forces support the Police in maintaining order, is taken to combat crime.
The decree issued by the Executive Branch indicates that the state of emergency continues for the districts of Ate, Ancón, Carabayllo, Comas, Independencia, Los Olivos, Lurigancho – Chosica, Puente Piedra, Rímac, San Martín de Porres, San Juan de Lurigancho, Santa Rosa and Villa El Salvador in the province of Lima and in the Ventanilla district in Callao.
