MADRID Dec. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The leader of the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, stated this Saturday that the organization is prepared for war “if the Israeli enemy imposes it”, and has stressed that the group’s intervention in the conflict in the Middle East is a “national, Arab, Islamic and human responsibility.”
“I will begin from the launch of the Support Front in Lebanon, on October 8, 2023, this support directed to Gaza, resistant, fighting and generous. Since we started this support, we repeat again that we do not want war, but we do want to provide support, because this is a national, Arab, Islamic and human responsibility,” the leader declared in a speech, according to Lebanese television Al Mayadeen.
Qassem has blamed Israel for starting the confrontation against Hezbollah, “including the general secretary, the venerable and martyred, and supreme leader of the nation, Hasan Nasrallah.”
“These Israeli actions and aggressions were extremely serious and painful, leading us to a state of bewilderment for ten days,” he stressed.
In this sense, Qassem has maintained that Hezbollah managed to regain its strength and capacity for resistance. “The Israeli enemy thought we would disperse quickly, but instead, we restructured our organization and continued to fight bravely on the front lines,” he added.
“He restructured the leadership and control system, and stood firm on the front thanks to the brave and honorable Resistance fighters. In addition, he began to hit the rear of the Israeli enemy, which placed the situation in a significant defensive state led by Hezbollah “he stressed.
A day earlier, Qassem delved into the group’s version that the ceasefire reached with the Israeli Army to stop attacks in Lebanon is a “great victory” for the resistance and a sign that the Israeli authorities had to accept the pact to “save” its troops deployed in southern Lebanon.
Israel and Hezbollah reached an agreement on Tuesday for a ceasefire of about 60 days, which stipulates that both Hezbollah and Israeli troops must abandon southern Lebanese territory in favor of the regular Lebanese Army, which must take up positions in the area. to guarantee the security of northern Israel.
However, both Hezbollah and Israeli authorities have accused each other of breaking the ceasefire. The Israeli Army, in fact, has reported in recent days several operations against Hezbollah operatives in southern Lebanon.
The resurgence of hostilities in Beirut and southern Lebanon is part of the clashes that began more than a year ago after Hezbollah attacked Israel a day after the offensive of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 7, 2023. which left almost 1,200 dead and 240 hostages and served as a trigger for the current war in the Middle East.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) unleashed a new invasion of Lebanon on October 1 after weeks of intense bombings and attacks against the country, including the coordinated explosion of thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies linked to Hezbollah. . The attacks on Lebanon have decimated Hezbollah, which has lost its historic leader, Hasan Nasrallah. This war leaves a provisional balance of nearly 4,000 dead and 16,500 injured.
