The Lebanese office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported this Wednesday that some of the country’s main roads register “a lot of traffic” due to the large number of displaced people returning to their homes after several weeks of evacuations. forced by the attacks of the Israeli Army.

“UNHCR welcomes the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. We hope it can put an end to the violence, destruction and immense suffering. Heavy traffic is seen in Lebanon since this morning as displaced people finally begin to return after months of forced displacement,” UNHCR Lebanon has stated on its social networks.

Likewise, the organization has shared a video in which a road with heavy traffic is observed. These images come after the ceasefire reached the day before came into force this morning to put an end to the attacks between the Israeli Army and the Shiite militia party Hezbollah, which have been especially bloody for three months.

However, although Israel has committed to ending the attacks in southern Lebanon, it already clarified this Wednesday that it will not abandon its positions in the area for the moment, and even the Arabic spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces ( IDF), Avichai Adraee, has warned Lebanese not to move to the south of the country to avoid “being in danger.”

“We remind you that the IDF is still deployed in its positions in southern Lebanon in accordance with the terms of the ceasefire agreement, and our forces will firmly confront any movement that violates this agreement,” said Adraee, who stressed that, until 7:00 (local time), “it is absolutely prohibited to move south of the Litani River.”

In this regard, the Lebanese Army has appealed to residents who are on their way to their homes in the south, especially in the cities of Tyre, Bin Jbeil and Marjayun to do so in accordance with the instructions of the military authorities and to avoid approaching areas with an Israeli presence.

“You are asked to respond to the directives of military units and not approach areas where Israeli enemy forces are present, in order to preserve your safety, especially since you may be exposed to fire from enemy forces,” the Army has warned. Lebanon on its social networks.
