Top European leaders celebrate Lebanon ceasefire agreement

The main European leaders celebrated this Tuesday the announcement by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, about the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon to end hostilities between the Israeli Army and the Shiite militia party Hezbollah.

On the other hand, the French president has insisted that the restoration of Lebanon’s sovereignty requires the “immediate election of a president” who will allow “the Lebanese to unite through the formation of a strong and representative government.”

Another of those who has spoken out has been the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, who has assured that the ceasefire agreement will be a “relief” for thousands of civilians in Lebanon and northern Israel who have suffered the ” unimaginable consequences” of the conflict.

“This agreement must become a lasting political solution in Lebanon based on Security Council resolution 1701, which will allow civilians to permanently return to their homes and communities on both sides of the border to rebuild,” said the ‘ British premier’ in a statement.
