Jordan describes the shooting near the Israeli Embassy in Amman as "a terrorist attack"

The Government of Jordan has described the shooting that occurred on Sunday near the Israeli Embassy in the capital, Amman, as “a terrorist attack”, an event that resulted in the death of the suspect and the wounding of four police officers, according to the official report.

The Minister of Communications and spokesman for the Jordanian Executive, Mohamad Momani, has “firmly” condemned the event, which took place in the Rabié neighborhood, while emphasizing that “any attempt to endanger national security or attack personnel will be addressed with total determination and the full force of the law.

Likewise, he has stated that the suspect had a criminal history related to drugs, while confirming that investigations are underway to clarify all aspects related to the incident, as reported by the Jordanian state news agency, Petra.

For his part, the Jordanian Prime Minister, Jafar Hasán, has paid a visit to the four agents injured in the shooting, to whom he has conveyed his wish for a speedy recovery. Furthermore, he has applauded their work in “safeguarding the nation and its citizens.”

Previously, the Jordanian Police had indicated that security forces moved to the surroundings of the Embassy after receiving information about the presence of an armed person in the area, after which a shooting occurred. The suspect was also carrying Molotov cocktails.
