BEIJING, June 22. (DPA/EP) –
The president of China, Xi Jinping, launched this Wednesday a plea against the “expansion” of military alliances, without directly alluding to the West or NATO, but with a message contrary to “hegemonies”.
Xi has spoken at the start of a business forum of the BRICS –Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa– and has warned that countries cannot depend “on their strength, on the expansion of military alliances and seeking their own safety at the expense of others’.
“History has shown that hegemony, political groups and clashes between blocs do not bring peace or stability, but rather war and conflict,” Xi said in his online appearance.
For the Chinese president, the war in Ukraine has once again been “an alarm for humanity”, although Beijing has avoided criticizing Moscow for the start of the offensive in February.
