Last Monday, November 18, the International Forum of the Social and Solidarity Economy presented the “Guide for drafting a right of the Social and Solidarity Economy”, a tool designed to facilitate the processes of creating legal, institutional and public policy frameworks that promote the development and autonomy of the social and solidarity economy (SSE) in different countries and territories.
The Guide was prepared by David Hiez, academic at the University of Luxembourg, and presented by Marion Pouzoulet, researcher at the International SSE Forum. In his presentation, Pouzoulet pointed out that it is important to consider that this guide was prepared before the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on the Promotion of the Social and Solidarity Economy for Sustainable Developmentand which therefore should serve as a first input to consider, along with the most recent international definitions.
The presentation included the comment of Felipe Correa, specialist from the Productive and Business Development Division of ECLAC, who made an invitation to use the guide as a starting point to develop regulatory frameworks that take into account the reality of Latin America and the Caribbean. . In his words, “this guide greatly facilitates legislative work by offering a clear structure of the SSE and transforming knowledge into practical action,” he stated.
In this way, ECLAC maintains its links with international organizations that support the SSE, within the framework of the Report of the Secretary General of the United Nations and of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution which “encourages relevant entities of the United Nations development system, including United Nations country teams, to give due attention to the social and solidarity economy as part of their planning and programming tools” .
