Five extremist settlers arrested during a Jewish holiday in the West Bank city of Hebron

Settlers, led by National Security Minister Ben Gvir, storm the Abraham Mosque

Nov. 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Five extremist settlers were arrested this Friday by the Israel Police after trying to attack the commander of the Judea and Samaria division of the Israeli Army, General Avi Bluth, during a Jewish holiday in the West Bank city of Hebron.

The crowd tried to attack Bluth, responsible for security in the West Bank, shouting “traitor.” “The Israel Defense Forces strongly condemn violence of any kind towards its members and consider incidents of this type very serious,” the Army said in a message on the X social network.

During the day, thousands of settlers – including the Minister of National Security, the far-right Itamar Ben Gvir – broke into the Abraham Mosque, known to Jews as the Tomb of the Patriarchs, according to the WAFA news agency.

Palestinian activists have reported that the Israeli Army has arrested a young man with disabilities in the Jaber neighborhood after the authorities imposed a curfew and closed numerous streets, including those in the Old City, as part of the Jewish holiday.

The Tomb of the Patriarchs is the place that houses, according to Jewish and Koranic traditions, the twin tombs where three important biblical couples are buried: Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, and Jacob and Leah. For its part, the Old City of Hebron and its surroundings, where hundreds of settlers live, are under Israeli military control.
