The Prime Minister of Ireland, Simon Harris, assured this Friday that his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, will be arrested if he decides to enter the country after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against him on Thursday for the alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity perpetrated within the framework of the military offensive launched more than a year ago on the Gaza Strip.
When asked about the possibility of him being arrested if he enters Irish soil, Harris said “yes, absolutely.” “We support the international courts and execute their arrest warrants,” he said after the court also issued this order against former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, according to information from the Irish radio station RTE.
The Hague court has also ordered the arrest of the head of the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Mohamed Diab al Masri, known as ‘Abú Deif’, after other leaders of the Islamist group previously identified, Yahya Sinwar and Ismail Haniye, have lost their lives in recent months in Israeli operations.
In principle, any of the 124 member states of the court would theoretically be obliged to arrest those people against whom these types of orders are issued. In this sense, Harris has confirmed that she will also comply with the measure in the case of the Hamas leader.
