The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, described a bipartisan law as “garbage” approved this week by the United States House of Representatives to interrupt the financial flow of his government and asked his country’s parliament to accelerate legislation against those who supported the so-called “Bolívar Law.”
“The ‘Garbage Law’ called for by surnames, committing serious international and national crimes (…) that is called association to commit crimes, when you go out to support a law of war against the people of Venezuela (…) everyone abides by the consequences those who join together to ask that the garbage law be approved,” the president said this Wednesday at an event in Caracas.
In response to the approval of the Law Prohibiting Operations and Leases with the Illegitimate Authoritarian Regime of Venezuela, known as the “Bolívar Law”, which must now pass to the US Senate, the president of the Venezuelan National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez , asked this Tuesday to approve legislation that establishes the “perpetual” political disqualification of those who have committed “acts against the State.”
“I propose that this special law Liberator Simón Bolívar include the political disqualification in perpetuity of those who have committed such harmful acts, such brutal acts against the Republic, in perpetuity,” he said in a session of the AN.
The Venezuelan leader, María Corina Machado, winner of the opposition presidential primary, but disqualified from holding public office, thanked the members of the House of Representatives who defended and approved the “Bolívar Law.”
“It is a crucial step to hold the Maduro regime accountable. We hope to continue the fight for freedom in Venezuela, working together to achieve a rapid transition to democracy and a bright future for the region,” he wrote in X, in response to a message from Republican Congressman Mike Waltz, one of the promoters of the project. of law and who praised it.
Waltz was recently chosen by US President-elect Donald Trump as his future national security advisor.
Maduro was proclaimed winner of the July 28 presidential elections for a third term, but the opposition, which published copies of the minutes kept by its table witnesses, denounced fraud and attributed the victory to González Urrutia, currently in exile. forced” in Spain.
Part of the international community has not recognized Maduro as the winner and has called for independent verification of the results that caused protests that left 28 people dead and more than 2,400 detained.
After United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken referred to González Urrutia as president-elect, Maduro urged him not to make a mistake.
