The New Zealand authorities have included this Wednesday the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah in their list of terrorist organizations, all in a context marked by the clashes between the Islamist group and the Israeli Army within the framework of the regional war. unleashed after the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023.
The New Zealand Government had already designated the group as a military branch in 2010, which now elevates it in category. Along with Hezbollah, New Zealand authorities have also declared Yemen’s Houthi rebels a terrorist organization, and renewed the designation of Al Shabaab and the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
This decision was soon supported by the Israeli authorities, who highlighted the determination of the New Zealand Government. “New Zealand has become the 30th country in the world to designate Hezbollah, in its entirety, as a terrorist organization,” said Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
