US withdraws USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier from Middle East

The Yemeni Houthi rebels have claimed this Tuesday for the attack recorded the day before against the Panama-flagged merchant ship ‘Anadolu S’, while it was transiting the Red Sea, alleging that the crew “did not respond to the warnings” and the company that owned it “violated the ban on entry into the ports of occupied Palestine,” referring to Israel.
“We carried out a targeted operation against the ship ‘Anadolu S’ in the Red Sea with a series of appropriate ballistic and naval missiles. The hit has been precise and direct. It was attacked because it did not respond to the warnings of the naval forces and because “The company that owns it violated the decision to prohibit entry to the ports of occupied Palestine,” said the military spokesman for the Houthis, Yahya Sari, through his Telegram channel.
In this sense, he recalled that the insurgency “continues to impose a naval block on the Israeli enemy and attack all ships linked to, in the direction of or dealing with it, as well as continuing to attack the Israeli enemy with missiles and drones, and that these operations will not stop until the aggression ceases and the siege on the Gaza Strip is lifted, and the aggression on Lebanon ceases.”
Last week, the Houthis claimed to have attacked the aircraft carrier ‘USS Abraham Lincoln’ and the two destroyers ‘USS Stockdale’ and ‘USS Spruance’, although the Pentagon only confirmed attempted attempted attacks against the destroyers. This Tuesday, the deputy spokesperson for the Department of Defense, Sabrina Singh, reported that the Army has withdrawn its only aircraft carrier, the ‘USS Abraham Lincoln’, from the area of responsibility of the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
This aircraft carrier has joined the Seventh Fleet in the Indo-Pacific, as reported by Singh during a press conference. “But we maintain significant firepower in the CENTCOM area of responsibility, which includes F-16s, F-15s and some of the B-52s. So we have an important position there,” has defended
The Houthis, who have controlled the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and other areas of the north and west of the country since 2015, have launched several attacks against Israeli territory and against ships with some type of Israeli connection as a result of the offensive launched against Gaza after the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023.
Likewise, Yemeni insurgents have attacked US and British ships and drones in response to these countries’ bombing of Yemen. Washington and London say they are acting to defend free navigation in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
