Six senior officials of the Government of Armenia resign, including the Minister of the Interior, at the request of Pashinián

MADRID 18 Nov. () –

The Minister of the Interior of Armenia, Vahé Kazarián, presented his resignation this Monday along with five other senior government officials after receiving a request from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinián, who has already ruled out that it is a departure for personal reasons.

Along with him, the Minister of Territorial Administration, Gnel Sanosián, the president of the State Revenue Committee, Rustam Badasián, the head of the Anti-Corruption Committee, Sasun Jachatrián, the president of the Supreme Judicial Council, Karen Andresián, and the head of the Investigation Committee, Argishti Kiaramián.

The measure comes weeks after information came to light that pointed to harsh criticism by Pashinián against members of his own Government and senior officials of the judiciary for considering that state agencies had not taken sufficient measures to end the sensation. that the country has an inefficient judicial system.

Now, the prime minister has assured that he has directly asked these officials to leave their positions for “systematic” reasons that he has already spoken of “publicly” and on previous occasions. “I cannot forget what these partners have contributed and I thank them for their contribution and understanding,” Pashinián stated in a message broadcast through his account on the social network X.

Despite all these resignations, the spokesperson for the government Civil Contract party in Parliament, Haik Konjorián, has ruled out the possibility of calling early elections. “They already took place in 2021 and the Armenian people expressed their will as a result of these elections,” he said.

“The next elections will be in 2026 and until then we must implement the mandate that the people have given us,” he said, according to information collected by the Armenian news agency Armenpress.

Opposition deputies, however, have assured that these resignations represent an attempt by the Government to regenerate its image in view of the next elections, something that for now has been denied by the president’s formation.
