That September 25, 2012, tens of thousands of people gathered in the Plaza de Neptuno, in Madrid. Summoned by the call to surround Congress, the night ended with harsh police charges that continued even inside the Atocha station. They arrested 35 people and 64 more were injured. Of them, 27 were agents, although the Government Delegation did not specify their ailments. On November 18, the oral hearing for 21 of those detainees will begin in what the organizers of the protest have called a “macro trial.” More than 12 years later, Justice will resolve what happened. The Prosecutor’s Office requests sentences that in some cases exceed seven years in prison and that, in total, add up to 112 years among all the accused.
Dozens of videos flooded the networks that Tuesday, September 25th. One of them left an image that is still remembered. Faced with one of the police charges, a plainclothes officer began to shout “I’m a partner, damn it!” to escape the blows that his own professional colleagues were giving him on the ground. Next to him, also on the asphalt, was Ángel García, who is accused of public disorder and for whom the Public Ministry requests a sentence of 3 years and 8 months in prison, the lowest of all.
