Toyota has made official the decision to cease production of the Yaris Sedan in Brazil and the end of its marketing in Argentina. This measure is due to the process of reorganizing the Japanese automaker’s supply in the region, in the face of changes in market preferences and the arrival of new models.
Changes in the Yaris range
In addition to the cessation of production of the sedan, toyota It will also stop manufacturing the manual transmission versions of the Yaris Hatchback. This means that the XLS and XLS Pack variants will cease to exist in both configurations. From now on, the range available in Argentina will be made up only of the XS, XLS+ and S hatchback versions, all with CVT automatic transmission, as confirmed by the Japanese company in an official statement.
Meanwhile, the remaining units of the Yaris Sedan and the manual versions of the Hatchback will continue to be sold until the stock available in dealerships is exhausted.
The arrival of the Yaris Cross
Toyota’s decision to adjust its offer in the region is linked to the introduction of a new model, the Yaris Cross. This B segment (small) SUV has already begun production in Brazil and is expected to arrive at Argentine dealerships during the first half of 2025.
The Yaris Cross will be manufactured at the Sorocaba plant in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, using the DNGA platform developed by Daihatsu, a subsidiary of Toyota. According to specialized media in Brazil, the locally produced model will be identical to the one marketed in Thailand.
This new SUV will be positioned in the Toyota range between the Yaris Hatchback and the Corolla Sedan and Corolla Cross models, covering a growing niche in the market.
Although the brand has not yet revealed details about prices or mechanical configurations, it is speculated that this new model will include at least a hybrid version, in line with the company’s global strategy.
