At least two people have died in the Ukrainian city of Nicolaiev, in the south of the country, as a result of one of the more than 200 night attacks carried out from Russian positions against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, starting with its capital, kyiv, where there are evidence of an injured woman.

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has denounced on social networks a “massive attack” that included 120 missiles and 90 unmanned aircraft. The president added that the country’s air defense has managed to shoot down 140 of these projectiles while the rest have hit targets or have hit deserted areas. The Russian Ministry of Defense, for its part, has confirmed what happened using exactly the same terms in a brief statement.

“This morning, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a massive attack with long-range, high-precision air and sea weapons, attacked unmanned aerial vehicles against critical energy infrastructure facilities that ensured the functioning of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine” , according to the statement.

The Ukrainian authorities have reported that one of these attacks has left two women dead and four adults, including two children, dead in Nicolaiev, according to the Ukrainian military governor of the region, Vitali Kim, who has also reported damage to homes, a skyscraper and a mall.

Nicolaiev is a port city on the Black Sea, near the front, that has been the target of numerous attacks since the beginning of the Russian invasion. The authorities of Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro or Krivoi Rog have also confirmed Russian attacks against their territory although at the moment they have not given figures of victims.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, has denounced on Facebook that these attacks were mainly aimed at the country’s infrastructure and have caused numerous supply outages throughout the territory.

The power grid of the city of Odessa has been particularly affected. Right now the authorities have confirmed power outages that have left residents without heat. The tram has also stopped working.

The kyiv authorities have twice declared an air alert in the country’s capital, which has spent almost five hours in a state of emergency. “Several Kh-101/55 cruise missiles, several ‘Kinzhal’ aeroballistic missiles, several Iskander-M (KN-23) ballistic missiles, probably also a ‘Zirkon’ type hypersonic missile and up to a dozen aerial vehicles were detected and destroyed attack drones,” according to the military administration in a statement published on Telegram.

The city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, has confirmed that a woman has been injured in one of these attacks and is hospitalized without giving further details of her condition.

Russia, for its part, has reported an injury due to the impact of a drone in the workshop of a factory in the Republic of Udmurtia, according to its president, Alexander Brechalov. The injured man is in moderate condition.

On the other hand, sources from the Russian security forces have informed the TASS agency of the seizure of a strategic route in Kurakove, in the disputed region of Donetsk. “The route that goes from Zaporizhzhia and that functions as a supply route is under our control,” they have assured, without Ukraine having commented on the matter.

PROVISIONAL ALERT IN POLAND

The magnitude of the Russian attack has caused the Polish Army to declare a temporary alert and deploy fighter aircraft to guarantee the security of its border.

“In accordance with the applicable procedures, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces activated all the forces and means available at its disposal, the pairs of fighters in service were activated and the ground air defense and radar recognition systems reached the maximum state of availability”, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense.

The alert began around 06:00 this morning and ended a little less than an hour later with the return of the planes to the bases.
