The president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, made an official visit to Peru this Saturday, where he reaffirmed in a joint statement with his Peruvian counterpart, Dina Boluarte, “the importance of continuing to strengthen high-level political dialogue to promote the main issues on the bilateral agenda”.

“(Both) recognize the solid foundations of friendship between Peru and Korea, built over more than 60 years of diplomatic relations, established in 1963,” reads a statement released by the Peruvian Executive.

During the visit, both leaders reaffirmed “the solid foundations of friendship” that unite both countries, and agreed on the importance of continuing to deepen bilateral cooperation in various areas, such as trade, investment, science, technology, defense, tourism, and cooperation. multilateral.

They also highlighted the need to continue promoting “people to people” exchange and strengthening education, culture and tourism between both countries.

“They underlined the importance of cooperation between all countries in the fight against climate change and the mitigation of its effects,” the Peruvian Government detailed.

Likewise, President Yoon highlighted Peru’s strategic role as a supplier of critical minerals for the Korean industry, while President Boluarte stressed the importance of the future “Technological and Industrial Logistics Hub” on the central coast of Peru, which will boost economic connectivity. between Latin America and Asia-Pacific.

Likewise, both countries signed several key defense and security agreements, including agreements for the construction of aircraft and ships, and the development of Peruvian industry in collaboration with Korean companies.

Regarding climate change, Seoul and Lima ratified the cooperation agreement on reducing emissions and adapting to climate change, highlighting their commitment to global sustainability.

The visit culminated in mutual gratitude for the hospitality and a renewed commitment to continue working together.
