US State Department Secretary Antony Blinken has urged Israel’s new Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to accelerate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and ensure conditions of continued peace and stability that allow for the liberation. hostages, while advocating diplomatic means to resolve tensions in Lebanon.

After congratulating him on his appointment and reaffirming the US’ “strong commitment” to “Israel’s security”, Blinken urged Saar to “take additional measures to accelerate and maintain the delivery of vital assistance”, beyond “the recent measures that Israel has adopted to increase the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, including food, medicine and other essential supplies.”

He has also re-emphasized the “importance of ending the war in Gaza” and releasing “all hostages,” establishing “lasting peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians alike,” according to a statement released by the Department. of State after a telephone conversation between the two.

On the other hand, the US secretary has put on the table the demand to seek “a diplomatic resolution in Lebanon”, in order to allow both the Israeli and Lebanese civilian populations to return to their homes”.

Israel unleashed a new invasion of Lebanon on October 1 after several weeks of intense bombing and attacks against the country, including the coordinated explosion of thousands of communication devices used by the Lebanese group, after more than eleven months of fighting with Hezbollah in the border area. Lebanon has reported nearly 3,400 deaths since the outbreak of hostilities on October 8, 2023.

The resurgence in hostilities is part of the clashes that began more than a year ago, after Hezbollah attacked Israeli territory following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions, which led to Israel to unleash a bloody offensive against the Gaza Strip, where more than 43,700 people have already died.
