MADRID 15 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United Nations has warned this Friday of an “alarming increase” in recent days in the number of people killed by Israeli attacks in densely populated areas of Lebanon.
“The number of dead, injured, displaced or facing displacement orders that we are seeing every day is deplorable,” lamented the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Lebanon (OCHA Lebanon).
“The protection of civilians is not optional: it is a moral and legal obligation that binds all parties in an armed conflict,” he added.
“All possible precautions must be taken,” adds OCHA, “to avoid and minimize harm to civilians, including in the choice of weapons and tactics, verifying targets and issuing effective and timely advance warnings.”
The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health estimates that at least 3,365 people have died and more than 14,340 have been injured in attacks carried out by the Israeli Army over the last year, since the outbreak of regional war following the attacks of Hamas from October 7, 2023.
