US President-elect Donald Trump said Thursday that a government efficiency commission headed by billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk will issue reports on its work to streamline the country’s administration.
“They will release individual reports and a big one at the end,” Trump said in a speech at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, providing the first new detail on the department’s results. since it was announced this weekto.
On Tuesday, Trump said the commission will “provide advice and guidance from outside the government” on downsizing the administration, cutting regulations, reducing spending and restructuring federal agencies.
Trump, for example, wants to drastically cut the “deep state,” career federal employees who he says clandestinely pursue their own goals.
Trump and Musk have suggested the group will make drastic cuts. However, the United States Constitution gives Congress power over the federal budget. Congress can accept or ignore advice from outside commissions like the proposed efficiency group.
In an effort to be transparent, Musk said the panel will publish its “actions” for public comment.
