They have called it “Operation Blue Corsair.” Today the Civil Guard has announced that Cristal Azul, the popular Kodi add-on that allowed you to watch Spanish LaLiga soccer matches live, has been deactivated. It has precisely been a complaint from LaLiga and Movistar that has led the Technological Research Team (EDITE) of the Madrid Command to stop developing behind this extension of the famous multimedia player.
We already know the reason for saying goodbye to Cristal Azul. The operation was announced today, but it was last October when this famous Kodi addon stopped working. Through its Telegram channel, the message was sent “the addon is closed immediately and forever, because things have gotten very ugly, until forever.” A message that is now better understood.
For a month there has been speculation about what was happening with Cristal Azul. Now we know that the extension has been demanded by football rights managers and police officers have taken the initiative to arrest the person responsible.
Live broadcasts to more than 78,000 people. As described by the Civil Guard, the person responsible for Cristal Azul is accused of offering broadcasts without rights for free to more than 78,000 people at the same time.
Movistar and LaLiga accuse the person behind Cristal Azul of a crime related to the market and consumers worth fraud of 42,547,104 euros. A high amount, calculated by the alleged damage that these broadcasts have caused.
How was the operation? The Civil Guard has arrested a 37-year-old man. This is the developer of Cristal Azul, an extension unrelated to the development of Kodi itself. This extension allowed access to football broadcasts without rights.
How was the administrator found? As described by the agents: “in order to determine the authorship of the events, the investigation focused on the “nicknames” that appear through the source code within the extension. “The investigations carried out made it possible to identify a specific user of the platform as responsible for the events.”
In addition to the addon, several Telegram channels have also been blocked and the specific programming code used has been deleted.
LaLiga and Movistar, on the hunt for add-ons and IPTV. He last septemberSpanish LaLiga participated in the closure of one of the most popular IPTV in Latin America: Magis.TV. In that operation there were five detainees and 675 websites dismantled.
