At least two Pakistani soldiers died this Thursday in a clash against alleged terrorists who were going to attack civilians in the town of Hanai, located in the province of Balochistan, in western Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Army Information Bureau (ISPR) has explained that, following “reports of the presence of terrorists who were planning to attack innocent civilians”, security forces were mobilized “immediately”. The Army “effectively attacked the terrorists’ position,” killing three of them, but “an improvised explosive device exploded in the vehicle leading the security forces.”
“The sacrifice our brave officers and soldiers are making exemplifies the unwavering dedication to defending the country against the threat of terrorism,” said the Chief of the Army Staff, Sied Asim Munir, after the funeral of the deceased soldiers.
Pakistani security forces have carried out dozens of operations in recent months against the group Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), known as the Pakistani Taliban and responsible for dozens of attacks against security forces since the ceasefire was broken. the fire in November 2022.
The TTP group, which differs from the Afghan Taliban in organizational matters but follows the same rigorous interpretation of Sunni Islam, brings together more than a dozen Islamist militant groups operating in Pakistan, where they have killed some 70,000 people in two decades of violence.
