MADRID 14 Nov. () –
The president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has considered that women are not yet qualified to lead his country or, at least, they should not be “burdened” with such “difficult” types of responsibilities.
“I bow to women, without belittling their role, but they must be close so that we can rely on them as we usually do,” said Lukashenko, for whom “one does not become president, one is born president.”
“This is the hardest job. It is not necessary to carry a woman like this. This is not a ceremonial position for us,” insisted Lukashenko, who defends that “a woman must also be a woman,” without ruling out that in the future she could change.
Lukashenko has also mentioned the presidential campaign in the United States and has mentioned the possibility that the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has not been able to win due to gender issues and because that country is not yet ready to have a woman in the White House. .
Thus, he has opined that Harris “did what she could” in the campaign, “endured all kinds of intimidation and defending her party,” but finally lost. “The Democrats had good candidates, they could nominate them and Trump might not have been up to the task,” the Belarusian president assessed, according to the state agency Belta.
Belarusians have an appointment with the polls on January 26, 2025, in which President Lukashenko is scheduled to revalidate the position he has held since 1994, after the breakup of the Soviet Union.
The same Electoral Commission that quickly accepted Lukashenko’s candidacy at the end of October did not validate those of two opposition politicians within a few hours. In recent days, one of the proposals in which a woman appeared, that of the former Interior spokesperson Olga Chemodanova, has also fallen.
According to Lukashenko, both Chemodanova and Sergei Bobrikov’s candidacy have been withdrawn by themselves. “They are good people. They are known supporters of the current president,” he said of them. “They announced their decision to run and then saw that it caused some confusion. And they withdrew (…) We will fight together along the same paths,” he stated.
