MADRID 12 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, received his Israeli counterpart, Isaac Herzog, at the White House this Tuesday, at a time when the US Administration is focusing part of its efforts in the Middle East on achieving a ceasefire between the Israeli Army and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, all before Donald Trump takes office as the new US president in mid-January.

During a conversation with the media in the Oval Office, Herzog took the opportunity to praise Biden’s commitment to working “day after day” to free the hostages kidnapped by Hamas for more than a year, and he also highlighted worth looking to the future once regional tensions can be resolved.

“You have been thinking about the day after, about a possible trajectory of hope for the people of the region, about our ability to achieve security and peace, but first we must rescue the hostages,” the Israeli president said, according to some statements collected by the White House itself, which indicates that Biden has claimed to agree on this point.

Thus, to achieve these peace objectives in the region, Herzog has stressed the importance of acting first against Iran – which he has classified as “the empire of terror” – and its allies, among which not only finds Hamas, but also the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah, with which Israel is also at war; among other regional Islamist groups.

“Mr. President, this must be the main objective throughout your mandate, and the mandate of the next president (in reference to Trump) because we have to ensure that they cannot comply with their perverse intentions,” added Herzog, who has cataloged the regime in Tehran, led by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as “an important driver of anti-Semitism.”

Finally, in a farewell statement, the Israeli president thanked Biden for his support and called him “a friend of Israel and the Jewish people for decades.” “We will never forget, never in history, how you supported us in the darkest moment in our history,” Herzog stressed.

At this point, the Israeli president has given Biden a small archaeological remains from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem on which the name Yosef is read, a figure who in the Bible is charged with the job of strengthening Israel. “And, clearly, Mr. President, you have done it,” Herzog stressed before a grateful Biden who claimed to be a “Zionist.”
