Pedro Sánchez begins his tour in Colombia, will meet with Petro

The president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, will arrive in Bogotá on Tuesday, where the next day he will meet with his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petroand with officials of the current government, as indicated by local and Spanish media.

“The continent is redefining itself and the president wants to accompany the change in the progressive cycle. It is important to be the first”, they point out from the executive, according to the Spanish newspaper The country.

Sánchez will travel to the Colombian capital accompanied by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and a dozen businessmen with interests in the Latin American region.

In Bogotá, Sánchez will attend a business forum and visit the National Center for Memory, Peace and Reconciliation Museum, a space that seeks to recognize the rights of the victims of the internal armed conflict in Colombia and the construction of peace. In this way, Sánchez will show his support for the efforts of the new Colombian government to achieve “total peace” in the South American country, a Petro’s campaign promise. It was even known that the Spanish leader will offer his collaboration in the resumption of dialogue between the Government and the guerrillas of the National Liberation Army (ELN).

The visit is part of the tour that the Spanish president will carry out in Latin America, and which includes, in addition to Colombia, Ecuador and Honduras, where he will meet with the leaders Guillermo Lasso and Xiomara Castro, respectively, with a view to strengthening the relationship between Spain and Latin America.

According to the Spanish government, the tour also It will serve to promote the holding of the Summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States CELAC scheduled for the second half of 2023.

Petro met with Sánchez in Madrid, in January, when he was a presidential candidate.
