The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru, the secretariat of the Annual Conference of Mining Ministries of the Americas (CAMMA) and the Deutsche Gelleschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), in within the framework of the Regional Cooperation Program for the Sustainable Management of Mining Resources in the Andean Countries (MinSus), they will hold the First Dialogue Table “Transition of the regulatory framework to incorporate the circular economy in mining in Peru”, in hybrid format, in Lima, Peru, on November 13, 2024, starting at 8:30 a.m. in Peru (10:30 a.m. in Chile).

The First Dialogue Table continues the topics on strengthening the role of the circular economy in mining in Peru that were addressed at the Regional Seminar on Circular Economy in Mining in Peru, held on July 10 and 11.

It is the first in a series of dialogue tables to address the challenges and opportunities faced by Peru’s mining sector to incorporate the circular economy. The objective of these thematic tables is, on the one hand, to identify the main gaps in regulations, technology and innovation, as well as the incentives for the promotion of the circular economy in the sector. On the other hand, generate a set of concrete proposals to close these gaps and make the circular economy possible in Peruvian mining.

The first dialogue table will focus on identifying and analyzing proposals for necessary changes in Peru’s mining regulatory framework to facilitate the transition of its mining sector towards one that incorporates the principles of circular economy.

The dynamics of the event include presentations by experts and dialogues where regulatory gaps and best practices will be discussed. Attendees will be able to contribute ideas and exchange knowledge, experiences and perspectives on the circular economy in mining in Peru.

The event calls for the participation of key actors, public policy makers, experts, academics, executives of unionized and non-unionized mining companies, representatives of civil society organizations and international cooperation, investors and financiers, with the aim of identifying possible normative and regulatory modifications to promote and facilitate the circular economy in the mining sector of Peru.
