Mickey 17, the new film by South Korean director Bong Joon-ho is scheduled for release in 2025. This prominent figure in cinema is perhaps more familiar if we mention that he achieved global fame with the renowned film Parasite, in 2019. His new film has changed the release date to April 2025 in a strategic attempt to attract a wider audience.
Warner Bros. is the distributor in charge of this film. The studio had previously announced that the release was scheduled for January 30. However, this has been postponed to April 18, 2025, as it seeks to take advantage of the Easter season, a time when cinemas usually receive a greater number of people.
The film will star Robert Pattinson and Steven Yeun. The story focuses mainly on science fiction themes, since all the events occur in the middle of space exploration.
Based on the 2022 novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, the story follows Mickey Barnes, an “expendable” or “expendable” space explorer, sent to colonize an ice planet. In this mission, Mickey has to face the possibility of being replaced by a clone when his life is threatened in the planet’s inhospitable environment. However, after surviving a dangerous mission that appeared to be in mortal danger, the protagonist finds himself in an unexpected situation: he must coexist with a replacement version of himself.
In addition to Pattinson, who plays Mickey, the cast includes well-known actors such as Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo. Steven Yeun, famous for his roles in films such as Minari and Okjaalso has an important role, which adds another point of interest for international audiences, especially in Asia, where both actors are popular.

The release date change comes amid numerous delays in the entertainment industry, due, in part, to the Hollywood strikes in 2023, which affected both actors and screenwriters in the United States.
Although the production of Mickey 17 began in August 2022 at the Warner Bros. studios in Leavesden and ended in December of that same year, delays in post-production and the SAG-AFTRA strike led to its release being postponed several times.
Warner Bros. had initially scheduled its release for March 29, 2024, but due to these issues and rescheduling of schedules, the release date was removed until the most recent announcement.
