Every mobile phone should have a second chance and this is the first time I’ve seen it happen.

In technology, just like life, things don’t always turn out right the first time. Therefore, most of the time when a brand launches a new product category, it is not advisable to buy it, but rather wait until the following year until the problems have been solved.

But I have always thought, why do we have to wait a year?

When a brand launches a product such as a mobile phone, within a few days the specialized media such as Computer Today They already tell you their opinions, and shortly afterward it is the users themselves who share their reviews and ratings with the seller.

This makes it possible for a technology brand to collect the opinions of the press and consumers and after a few months it can launch a version 2.0 that fits much better than what the original product should have been to be the best possible.

That is to say, that In theory every device could have a second chancealthough it is not something that in my 8 years of testing products I have ever seen.

Now, I have come across for the first time a product that is clearly an improved version of another that was launched less than six months ago and does so for practically the same price.

I’m talking to you about the Vivo V40 SE 80W, the latest mid-range mobile that the Chinese brand has launched in Spain, where it is already sold for 329 euros. This mobile has an excessively complicated name and is actually a version of the Vivo V40 SE 5G, also mid-range, which the company launched in April for 299 euros.

Many people may find it strange that Vivo launches two phones with such similar names and in almost identical price segments in such a short time. It is not easy to decide in a context in which there are more and more options to choose from, and these types of measures add a little more difficulty for the consumer.

But I must admit that I personally love what Vivo has done with this Vivo V40 SE 80W because it has done what we always ask to be done: listen to what people say to get a device that is improved in almost everything and almost for the same price .

The Vivo V40 SE 5G passed through our hands leaving good feelings, but the experience I have had now analyzing the new V40 SE 80W makes it clear that the strategy has been correct and that it is now the most recommended mid-range mobile of the two by far..

Aura Light

It may not be in the name of the product, but Aura Light is without a doubt one of the big improvements of the Vivo V40 SE 80W over its predecessor.

To unify strategy with the rest of the phones in the Vivo V40 family, the new device incorporates Aura Light, something that was not present in the model from half a year ago.

In testing I loved having this feature, which is completely different from the flash, as it introduces a fill light with customizable color temperature and clearly improves portraits.

fast charging

The improvement in fast charging has been so great that Vivo has named the V40 SE 80W after it.

The advance is significant, since with its 44W fast charging, the mobile phone from half a year ago charged its 5,000 mAh in just over an hour. Now, With the same capacity, its 80W charge allows the new mobile to charge from 0 to 100% in about 30 minutes.

I love that a mid-range mobile phone has a charging speed comparable to that of many high-end smartphones today, and even clearly surpasses brands like Samsung and Apple.

Bluetooth

It is an advance that is not very visible, but in this semester, the Vivo V40 SE has gone from Bluetooth 5.0 to Bluetooth 5.1.

With this, connectivity has had some improvement but in my experience it has been practically imperceptible, so I don’t think it is something that the average user will notice.

Although it is an improvement, I would have liked Vivo not to have been several generations behind, since the most recent standard is Bluetooth 5.4 and even in the mid-range you can find examples that have it.

Endurance

Vivo usually boasts about durability in its smartphones and in this case it is appreciated that the brand has achieved a slightly better resistance certification in its new mobile.

The Vivo V40 SE 80W has IP64 resistance, compared to the IP54 that the previous model boasted.

This means that although its water resistance is the same – only splashes – Vivo has continued working in the last semester to improve dust resistance, which becomes as high as possible.

AI

Artificial intelligence is everywhere in the technology sector today, and Vivo has not forgotten to include it in its new V40 SE 80W, through four new features included from the beginning.

Specifically, the features are focused on photography and are: an AI erase to eliminate people and objects; AI photo enhancement for old images; distortion correction for people who appear deformed in wide-angle photos; and documents with AI.

I didn’t find it very new compared to Google Photos, but it is appreciated that AI is also present in the mid-range, and not only in the most expensive models as was the case at the beginning.

Price

The price is an aspect in which the Vivo V40 80W has not improved compared to the V40 SE 5G, but I want to include it here because it seems relevant to me that All these improvements have only meant a very small price increase that does not change the segment in which it competes.

The V40 SE 5G was launched for a recommended price of 299 euros in Spain, while the V40 SE 80W costs 329 euros – not including charger. That is, 30 euros more, but within the same range.

Only 30 euros difference for all the best ones that it includes are more than justified in my opinion, and personally I am very clear that I would choose it.
