Hezbollah leader says group "is in defensive phase" against Israeli invasion of Lebanon

Qasem reiterates that Netanyahu “will not be able to achieve a victory” and that the group “will not beg” for a ceasefire agreement

Nov. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The leader of the Lebanese Shiite party-militia Hezbollah, Naim Qasem, stressed this Wednesday in a new speech that the group “is in a defensive phase” in the face of the invasion unleashed by Israel and has stressed that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, ” will not be able to achieve a victory” in this war, after more than a year of fighting following the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by Hamas and other Palestinian groups.

“We find ourselves immersed in an aggressive war by Israel against Lebanon. It is not important what caused the war or what its pretexts are. The important thing is that we are facing Israeli aggression,” he said, in his second speech since his appointment. as secretary general of the group after the death on September 27 of Hasan Nasrallah in an Israeli bombing of Beirut.

“We expected this war to take place and that is why we prepared for it. Now we are in a defensive phase to confront the aggression and expansionist objectives (of Israel),” he stated, before emphasizing that Netanyahu “has not set a date for the end of the war” and has shown his desire to “change the face of the Middle East”.

Thus, he stressed that Hezbollah “will not beg for an end to aggression” and has stated that the group “will make the enemy be the one to ask for an end to aggression.” “We will make Netanyahu realize that he is a loser on the ground and that his defeat will prevent him from achieving his objectives,” he added.

Qasem has also declined to comment on the result of the presidential elections in the United States, in which Donald Trump has won, and has maintained that they “have no value” for the group, as reported by the Lebanese television channel Al Manar. , linked to Hezbollah.

“For Hezbollah, as a resistance, the only option is to prevent the occupation from achieving its objectives,” he reiterated, before stating that the Israeli Army “has not achieved what it wanted so far” and that Hezbollah will remain firm and determined” and ” will be victorious, God willing.”

In this sense, he has delved into the fact that “the Israeli enemy hoped to eliminate Hezbollah by attacking its leaders, but did not know that it was facing a party and a resistance based on doctrine, combatants and preparations”, all of which is based in “a firm Islamic doctrine that makes it stand on the side of truth, liberation, independence, pride and dignity.”

“The price in blood and martyrs of the resistance must be paid to achieve victory,” said Qasem, who once again praised the figure of Nasrallah, whom he described as “an exemplary leader” and “a brave man.” as well as “a flag for the liberation of Palestine.”

The Government of Lebanon has estimated more than 3,000 dead and around 12,800 injured due to the attacks carried out by Israel since October 8, 2023, after the militia party began firing projectiles in support of the Palestinian groups following the attacks carried out the day before against Israeli territory.
