The Mexican Navy seizes 3.6 tons of cocaine in the Pacific

The Mexican Navy reported Tuesday the seizure of 3.6 tons of cocaine aboard a vessel off the Pacific coast, which was spotted earlier this week about 246 kilometers (153 miles) from the tourist port of Acapulco. .

Navy ships intercepted a vessel transporting 102 packages of cocaine.

The so-called “speed boat” was powered by two outboard motors and appeared to be a low-profile, semi-submersible vessel designed to make detection difficult.

On board the boat, the Navy detained nine crew members, six of them foreigners. The Navy did not specify their nationalities, but many of the ships found off the coast of Mexico have Colombian or Venezuelan crews.

Cocaine is produced in South America and is usually shipped across the Pacific or Caribbean to reach the US market.
