The accumulation of water in the high-speed tunnel near El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona) has forced high-speed trains on the line between Madrid and Barcelona to temporarily stop running.

Renfe sources explain to Europa Press that the impact began at 12:00 p.m., with the suspension of high-speed traffic between El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona Sants and Sant Andreu Comtal.

At 12:45 p.m. traffic was restored between Barcelona and Sant Andreu and at 1:15 p.m. between El Prat and Barcelona, although only on one of the roads.

In this sense, the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, has reported that the trains will leave Barcelona first to free up tracks for those coming from Madrid.

The impact on Renfe so far is 4 trains: Euromed Valencia 09.15-Barcelona Sants 12.16, AVE Madrid 09.30-Figueres Vilafant 13.40, AVLO Madrid 10.30-Barcelona Sants 13.15 and AVE Marsella 08.04-Madrid 15.45.

In addition, other trains that were already circulating are stopped waiting for normality to be restored, such as the Iryo train 06130 and another from this company that had to leave at 12:45 from Barcelona to Seville and has already accumulated more than an hour and average delay.

Likewise, in Atocha delays are accumulating to Barcelona, such as the Iryo train 06130, whose departure was scheduled for 3:25 p.m. and now appears at 4:20 p.m., or the AVE 09730 at 3:45 p.m., whose current estimated delay It’s more than half an hour.

Finally, at 2:20 p.m., Renfe reported that traffic had been restored on both tracks, although the delays already affected more trains, such as the Ouigo train at 4:20 p.m. Madrid-Barcelona and another Iryo at 4:30 p.m., also from Madrid to Barcelona, or Ouigo from Barcelona at 1:50 p.m.
