UN Regional Commissions High-Level Side Event at CBD COP-16: Key Actions for Interregional and Regional Implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework

The United Nations Regional Commissions (RegComs), with their capacity to address cross-sectoral and cross-border issues, as well as their specific mandates as catalysts for transformative action, play a critical role in supporting Member States in their efforts to achieve the goals. of integrated and interconnected frameworks, such as the 2030 Agenda, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF), the climate agenda and inclusive and sustainable economic transformation. The Regional Commissions are deploying efforts to address the challenge of sustainable use and management of biodiversity, covering key areas such as biodiversity integration, climate action, human rights, resource mobilization, sustainable management, bioeconomy and governance. Additionally, they focus on the collection and analysis of relevant data, while supporting participation processes and other initiatives.

This high-level side event on the inter-regional and regional implementation of the KM-GBF comes at a crucial time, with a determined focus on action. A joint policy report titled: “Making Peace with Nature: Regional Actions to Integrate and Invest in Biodiversity” will be launched during the event.

The event will include a dialogue on best practices and innovative approaches to accelerate biodiversity conservation and will provide a platform for leaders and experts to reflect on challenges, share experiences and discuss innovative approaches that drive action for biodiversity both globally. as regional.
