MADRID 3 Nov. () –

The former minister and governor of the Bank of Spain, José Luis Escrivá, will appear next Wednesday at the Congressional Economy Commission to report on the general lines of action that the organization will assume under his mandate.

Although he has visited the Lower House on numerous occasions as a minister and previously as president of AIReF, it will be the first time that Escrivá appears as governor of the Bank of Spain.

An appointment that parties such as the PP and Vox strongly criticized several times, understanding that a minister cannot immediately go on to direct an independent body, as they consider it an attempt to “colonize” the institutions, according to the party leader, Alberto Núñez. Feijóo.

And it was common for PSOE and PP to agree on the positions of governor and deputy governor of the institution, but in these latest negotiations the Government insisted on the name of Escrivá, which the ‘popular’ rejected outright, and in the end the socialists They ended up imposing it.

ESCRIVÁ HAS QUESTIONED POLICIES THAT WERE MADE WHEN HE WAS A MINISTER

Of course, in his first statements as governor, Escrivá has already distanced himself from the Government, questioning aspects of some policies that were made when he was minister, such as the extraordinary tax on banks or the Housing Law.

Specifically, he said that it was “desirable” to change the current design of the banking tax, since now provisions are not discounted. Likewise, he also pointed out that the Bank of Spain “is not aware” that limiting renting in stressed areas has a positive impact on housing prices, despite being a measure that the Government asks to apply in autonomous communities governed by the PP.
