OpenAI demonstrates its alliances with the media

For a few months now, OpenAI has established alliances with different media and publishing houses, such as Vox Media, Financial Times, News Corp and even the Associated Press agency.

These moves finally have a product in ChatGPT with this tool, which will also add new visual layouts for all updated information, such as weather, sports, news and maps.

“ChatGPT search promises to better highlight and attribute information from trusted news sources, which will benefit audiences and expand the reach of publishers who produce journalism,” said Pam Wassertein, president of Vox Media.

How does ChatGPT Search work?

According to the information provided by the company, this platform operates through GPT-4o and synthetic data generation training techniques to filter reliable results.

Additionally, it leverages third-party search providers (something that could lead to copyright disputes) as well as content provided directly by OpenAI’s information partners.

When will ChatGPT Search be available?

OpenAI confirmed that this new feature is now available to all ChatGPT Plus and Team users, in addition to SearchGPT users who are on the waitlist.

On the other hand, Enterprise and Edu users will have access to the new function in the coming weeks, while users of the free platform will also be able to use it, but in “the coming months,” the company said.

AI as a new source of news

Since the boom in generative AI, in November 2022, companies are increasingly interested in their platforms being the source of news and information or closest collaborators.

Meta demonstrated this last week, when it announced a partnership with the Reuters agency for its chatbot to answer user questions about news and current events.

“We can confirm that Reuters has partnered with technology providers to license our trusted, fact-based news content to feed their AI platforms. The terms of these agreements remain confidential,” an agency spokesperson said in a statement.
