MADRID 3 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The National Intelligence and Security Agency of Somalia (NISA) announced this Sunday the death of at least 27 members of the jihadist organization Al Shabaab during a “targeted operation” in the Yaaqle area, Middle Shabelle region, against a meeting of the leadership of the movement.
The NISA claims that this operation “successfully eliminated militants who intended to cause harm and suffering to the Somali people.”
The operation also led to the destruction of combat vehicles and military equipment used by the group.
The Shabelle region has been one of the keys to the fight against Al Shabaab, responsible for the worst terrorist attacks in the history of Somalia. The country’s president, Hasan Sheikh Mohamud, with the support of international partners, has intensified operations to recover territory and dismantle the group’s strongholds.
