British Military Intelligence suspects that 10,000 North Korean soldiers are already in Russia

London believes that there are already troops in Kursk but anticipates logistical difficulties due to problems of cooperation with Russian forces

Nov. 3 () –

British Military Intelligence estimates that some 10,000 North Korean soldiers are deployed in Russia and finalizing preparations for a possible incorporation into the war in Ukraine, although it predicts communication difficulties with Russian forces.

In its latest assessment this Sunday, the British Ministry of Defense is almost certain that “some of them are already deployed” in the Russian Kursk region, the scene of a surprising Ukrainian incursion that Moscow has been trying to completely repel for weeks.

The United Kingdom understands that the presence of North Korean soldiers is the result of the bilateral defense agreement between Pyongyang and Moscow, ratified in the Russian Duma on October 24, which deepens cooperation limited to the supply of North Korean weapons in exchange for the preservation and development of business relationships.

The United States and South Korea have also been insisting on the presence of these soldiers for weeks and have warned that they have prepared a range of response measures depending on the severity of the situation.

London clarifies, however, that Russian and North Korean forces “are going to go through significant operational difficulties” given that “they have never carried out joint military exercises.” Language, in particular, can represent a serious problem.

“North Korean troops participating in combat operations will have a difficult time operating Russian equipment, as will they have to integrate into Russia’s command and control structure and overcome the language barrier with Russian forces,” concludes Military Intelligence.
