The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported early this Sunday the death in the Gaza Strip of one of its troops as a result of the detonation of a grenade that took place the day before.

“An IDF soldier was killed by a grenade explosion during the night of Friday to Saturday in the north of the Gaza Strip,” the Israeli Army said in a brief post on its account on the X social network.

In the same message, the Israeli forces have added that the country’s Military Police has taken over the investigation into the circumstances of the incident, of which no further details have been released, and has stated that the family of the deceased soldier has already been notified.

The authorities of the Gaza Strip, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), have reported this Saturday the death of 55 people during the last day of attacks by Israel, bringing the total number of deaths to 43,314 and 102,019. that of wounded since the beginning of the military offensive launched against the enclave after the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023.

In this sense, he stressed that “there are still victims among the rubble and lying in the streets, without ambulances and Civil Defense teams being able to reach them.” Gazan authorities have stated on several occasions that at least 10,000 people are listed as missing.

The offensive against Gaza was launched after the aforementioned attacks on October 7, 2023, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 250 kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities. Added to these tolls are more than 750 Palestinians killed at the hands of Israeli security forces and in attacks perpetrated by settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
