Saturday, day of restrictions. Once again, we remember that we are facing the restrictions of Today No Circula. As you already know, with the program designed by the CDMX Environment Secretariat (SEDEMA) there are some restrictions to use our cars.
The objective, as you surely already know, is to reduce polluting emissions present in the atmosphere. To achieve this, take some cars off the streets from the equation. Obviously, this results in an improvement in air quality because there are fewer cars in motion.
Of course, we must remember that all this is not something that applies throughout Mexico. The first thing to be clear about is that these measures only apply in
the 16 mayoralties in Mexico City and in the following suburban municipalities of the State of Mexico:
- Atizapan of Zaragoza
- Coacalco de Berriozábal
- Cuautitlan
- Cuautitlán Izcalli
- Chalco
- Chicoloapan
- Chimalhuacan
- Ecatepec de Morelos
- Huixquilucan
- Ixtapaluca
- Peace
- Naucalpan de Juárez
- Nezahualcoyotl
- Nicolas Romero
- Tecámac
- Tlalnepantla de Baz
- Tultitlan
- Chalco Valley
What cars and license plates does Hoy No Circula Saturday affect?
Once we take all this into account, how does Hoy No Circula work? The first thing to keep in mind is that, as you can see in the image above, restrictions apply every day. But, on Saturdays there are exceptional measures.
These restrictions are applied taking into account the hologram of our car. This hologram will be the one that determines when or what days we can or cannot move. With this in mind, not all cars have to rest on Saturdays.
All of this, Today No Circula Saturday is applied in the following way:
- Those that can circulate every Saturday
- Those who have to rest every Saturday
- Those who rest every other Saturday
Of course, we must remember that these limitations only apply between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.. Beyond these hours, anyone will be able to move freely.
With all this in mind, the first thing to be clear about is that cars with hologram 0 and 00 will not have to face any restrictions. That is, cars with this category can circulate any day they want.
Those with hologram two, the owners will have to face restrictions every Saturday of the year. In this case, there is no two ways about it: if our car has hologram two, it will not be able to circulate on any Saturday of the year.
Finally, doubts arise with hologram one cars. This time, cars may or may not circulate depending on the last license plate number. If the last number is odd, we will rest on Saturdays of odd weeks. If it is even, the opposite.
This week, we talk about the first Saturday of the month of November. Therefore, on November 1, cars with hologram 1 and license plate numbers ending in an odd number will have to rest. Next week it will be the turn of cars with plates ending in an even number.
To all of the above, we must add that for the following exceptions, Today Not Circulating does not apply and, of course, neither does Today Not Circulating on Saturdays:
- Those with hologram 0 and 00
- Those that run on electricity, natural gas or are hybrids
- Those who have a disabled license plate
- All those dedicated to urban transportation services (includes funeral homes)
- Those that offer school or passenger transportation
- Those intended for public safety and/or civil protection
If you fail to comply with these restrictions, the fine will be 20 to 30 times the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA), which is equivalent to 1,924.40 pesos and even 2,886.60 pesos.
