MADRID 31 Oct. () –
The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, indicated this Thursday that he foresees clashes between Ukrainian and North Korean troops in a matter of just a few days, as tension increases over the alleged sending of North Korean troops to Russia for subsequent deployment within the framework of the invasion.
Zelensky, who has ruled out that North Korean forces have crossed the border into Ukraine, has indicated that there is intelligence information that suggests that North Korean forces would be preparing to join the battle on the Kursk front, the Russian province in which kyiv launched an incursion last August.
Thus, he stressed during an interview with the South Korean public broadcaster KBS that although the troops are already in Russian territory, they have not yet been involved in any combat with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Zelensky has estimated that there are already 3,000 North Korean troops deployed in Russian training centers, although this number is expected to rise to 12,000, including higher-ranking soldiers.
The Ukrainian president has highlighted that the greatest need currently for his country is to obtain an air defense system that allows its troops to counter Russian attacks, which is why an envoy is scheduled to visit South Korea as soon as possible to address a possible delivery of weapons by Seoul, with whom it hopes to exchange intelligence information.
In this sense, he has clarified that it is possible that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, decides to deploy a greater number of soldiers from North Korea based on the response given by NATO and South Korea to the situation that arises. on the ground.
