UNED launches a program on relations between China and Latin America

The program is designed for professionals, academics and students interested in understanding the dynamics of cooperation and competition between China, Latin America and Europe. Among its recipients are specialists in Economics, International Trade, International Relations, Political Science, as well as professionals from sectors such as foreign trade, political analysis, security, finance and education.

This interdisciplinary approach allows students from various areas to acquire in-depth knowledge about the global action of China and the New Silk Road, also known as the Belt and Road Initiative, and its impact on the world economy and geopolitics.

Program objectives and modular content

The main objective of this diploma is for students to be able to critically analyze China’s global strategies, evaluating their implications for the economies and policies of Latin America and Europe. Divided into four modules, the course addresses topics such as the role of the New Silk Road, China’s relations with the European Union and Russia, the challenges and opportunities in Latin America and the economic and technological cooperation models promoted by China.

The first module will focus on China’s global economic and political strategy, with emphasis on the expansion of the New Silk Road. Students will analyze the components and corridors of this initiative, which seeks to consolidate China as a leader in infrastructure and connectivity. The following modules will explore China’s relations with Europe and Latin America, paying special attention to the benefits and risks of these interactions, as well as the impact of technological and economic collaboration promoted by Beijing in these regions.

The course will be taught through the UNED virtual platform, and is based on self-learning, allowing students to advance according to their time availability. The modules will be accompanied by reading material in Spanish and, if necessary, in English. In addition, there will be live sessions with invited teachers and experts, among whom the participation of representatives of entities such as the Argentine-Chinese Chamber is expected, to delve into commercial and investment aspects related to the Chinese presence in Latin America. These lectures, also available in recorded format, will enrich the training experience with practical analyzes and current case studies.

The course evaluation will consist of written works of 3,000 words for each module, in which students will be able to choose a theoretical or practical orientation according to their interests. These final reports will provide the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired, analyzing key mechanisms and sectors in the relationship between China and Latin America or Europe. The flexibility of the program also allows for an extraordinary session in September for those students who are unable to complete the evaluations on the regular dates.
