MADRID 29 Oct. () –
The president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, stated this Tuesday that the country will continue with its operations against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in areas of Syria and Iraq to “eliminate any existing terrorist threat”, which puts in endanger the security of the country.
“We will prevent the terrorists who live on our borders from breathing,” he stated before clarifying that “until the establishment of a country and a region without terror is achieved, we will continue this fight in various dimensions.”
This is also how he referred to Syria and Iraq, from where the Turkish nation is also threatened, as he explained. “Wherever we detect a threat to our country, inside or outside our borders, no one can prevent us from eliminating it (…) and to achieve this objective we will not hesitate to use all the means at our disposal,” Erdogan said during a speech collected on the Turkish television network TRT.
“We are willing to use all the means at our disposal to put an end to terrorism,” he said just a week after five people died and more than twenty were injured in an attack perpetrated in Ankara and whose responsibility has already been claimed by the PKK.
“Such actions are the last efforts of the separatist organization. Now we are able to develop the weapons we need in the fight against terror and we do not need anyone’s permission,” added Erdogan, who praised the Turkish defense industry.
In line with statements made in the past, the Turkish head of state has indicated that the country is in the process of acquiring a “steel dome” similar to the Israeli air defense system, known as ‘Iron Dome’.
“We need to strengthen our air defense systems to prevent terrorist infiltrations, prevent attacks by hostile elements and eliminate many asymmetric threats. Now we will build the steel dome. In this process, we will also increase our long-range ballistic capabilities and work together without neglecting any area until reaching a deterrent element that instills confidence in friends and fear in enemies,” he pointed out.
