1Password now allows secure document sharing via a restricted access link

June 29. (Portaltic/EP) –

The password manager for companies and individuals 1Password has launched a new format to share files and documents securely through a restricted access link.

In October of last year the company introduced a password sharing tool that required passwords in order to complete the process of sending these credentials by email or by copying the file link.

East format streamlines the password sharing process and offers the possibility of configuring the expiration date so that, after a certain time (hours or days), the recipient cannot access this information.

The company recently has applied the same procedure in a new feature that allows you to share documents or files with other users through a restricted access link.

As he explained in an entry on his blog, to create this link, you have to select the item you want to share and set an expiration date, as well as choose its availability, either for anyone who has this ‘link’ or only for some selected users.

In the latter case, the chosen recipients will have to verify their email address with a unique and personal code in order to see the item that has been sent to them. Also, you can choose an option that makes the link self-destruct after being consulted on one occasion.

Once the preferences to generate the link have been chosen, it can be shared via email or any other means, such as a private WhatsApp or Messenger chat. Ultimately, it should be noted that these links can be seen by all users who receive them or are authorized to consult them, without the need to be a 1Password customer.
