Taiwan receives another US delegation in full escalation of tensions with China

TAIPEI, Aug. 22 (DPA/EP) –

The president of Taiwan, Tsai Ing Wen, received a new US delegation on Monday, this time led by the Republican governor of the state of Indina, Eric Holcomb, in the midst of escalating tensions with China.

Holcomb has been received this Monday by the president of Taiwan a day after his arrival on the island for a four-day visit. His is a new show of support from Washington after the passage of Senator Ed Markey and especially the president of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi’s visit prompted criticism from China, which in response carried out a series of military exercises, which for Taiwan are nothing more than “threats” for which it has asked its “democratic allies” to remain “united” to ” promote” cooperation “in all areas.

Holcomb has promised that the state of Indiana will continue looking for ways to continue collaborating with Taiwan in the coming years and proof of this has resulted in his signing a memorandum of understanding with the island’s Ministry of Economic Affairs to facilitate business, commercial and scientific cooperation .

During his stay, Gov. Holcomb plans to meet with other senior government officials, as well as other business and civil society representatives, according to Taiwan’s foreign ministry.
